About Patricia L Smith

Patti’s two dimensional work has been successfully juried, won awards, and can be found in public and private collections in Germany, Japan, and United States as well as western Canada. Her community mural 56’ long “Ode to Miro” can be viewed every summer at Salmon Arm’s Roots and Blues Festival. The 12’ ‘Shuswap River with Wild Roses’ is displayed at the entrance to the Enderby Credit Union. She is never far from water and avoids rooms without windows.

Patricia finds happiness in both the academic and atelier worlds. “I love connecting with like-minded people, whether I am leading, following or collaborating. It is magic. We can be investigating the same subject matter, concept or issue in the same medium, within the same parameters, yet we each respond in our own unique visual voice.” Patricia balances the winter isolation of studio work  with snowshoeing, skiing and dog walks with friends and family. She always looks forward to the warmer months when more time can be spent outdoors plein air painting with colleagues and seeking landscape sites using her small trailer a la Emily Carr. She is active in the Federation of Canadian Artists.

Since 2019, Patti has been immersed in the Truth and Reconciliation journey in Canada. She commences her Master’s in Human Rights and Social Justice at Thompson’s River University in September 2023.
